Larchmont Mamaroneck Youth Lacrosse Travel Program - Quality Players, Quality Coaches, Quality Experience!

LMYL is a k-6 recreational house lacrosse league that thrives because of the respect we give the game, the players, coaches and referees. We also offer a travel team experience for players looking to commit to playing the game at a higher level of competition. The league looks to support each travel team with at least two trained coaches who have been a coach within our league and/or a paid professional.  Each team consists of players who must try out new each year at a series of mid winter sessions. A player makes a team based on a simple matrix of attendance, attitude and ability.

Attendance- The player must attend the required amount of try out sessions. During the season the player is expected to make lacrosse the priority once their school program commitment is finished. LMYL directs a lot of time and resources to the travel teams and we expect the same in return.

Attitude- Do you really want to play at a higher level of competition? Then show it. Arrive early, ask for more, listen, be coachable- all traits for the travel team. You can not be over-positive on a lacrosse field!

Ability- This is more than passing and catching. It’s more than scoring goals; it’s how you score them. Can you see the next pass or defensive slide? Those are the abilities we like to see on top of ground balls and assists...

LMYL does not create travel teams based on a yearly quota.  The team breakdown depends on the numbers we forecast using data from the previous season.  We take into account that we play in CONNY and Hudson Valley leagues which have different age and grade division brackets.  We offer travel teams for 8th grade girls and boys plus 7th grade girls and boys.  This year (2010 season) on the girl’s side we will have the above plus at least two other teams for 6th, 5th and 4th graders. On the boy’s side we will offer the same plus invite 3rd graders to try-out for a Bantam level team. We are monitoring the registration and feedback to see if there is a need to invite 3rd grade girls to try out for the Bantam team.  Practices start in March and the season ends mid to late June.

Each travel team will look to carry between 18- 22 players. This off-season all our coaches will be attending coaches’ clinics to enhance their skill sets. The team fees for all the travel teams will stay the same as the previous years.

Note to Parents: LMYL reserves the right to cut a player trying out for a travel team based on the above criteria and input from the coaches that are assessing during the try-outs. Again, we are a house league that thrives on recreational play that is instructive and fun. For players cut from 6th grade down, the house league is available for them to continue developing their skills.

LMYL has a residency policy for travel teams. If you are not a resident of Larchmont or Mamaroneck you are welcome to register for the try-out sessions. However, if it comes down to a resident and a non-resident player who are the same type of player, our policy is we ask the resident player to join the team over the non-resident.

All of the above is so our Travel Schedulers have a good sense of what type of teams we will be fielding each season. In turn, they will be able to schedule the right opponents for us. This is a safety issue as well as a competitive one. We do not want 3rd graders going up against 5th graders or a strong 5/6 team playing a weak 5th grade team.

The Commissioner for the Girl’s Travel Program is Kate Verni ( ). The Boy’s Travel Commissioner is Chris Knowles ( ). Both Kate and Chris, along with the Board of Directors, direct quite a bit of time on figuring out the best scenarios for the kids to have a blast. We welcome your input and encourage you to contact us with questions or clarifications. That said, the best way to help now is to register your child today so we have an accurate count going into January 2010...

Quality players + Quality coaches= Quality experience!

Thank you
